This year's theme is
"It's a Gourd Day at the Zoo"
GOURD VENDOR RULES

1.Vendors must enter a minimum of three (3) exhibits in the Festival competition.
2.Eighty percent (80%) of the merchandise offered for sale by dried and crafted gourd vendors must be             gourds.  Twenty percent (20%) may be other gourd crafting materials.
3.Vendors may register and begin setting up between 1-5 PM on Friday and between 7 - 8:45 AM on
  Saturday.  Vendors must be set up by 9 AM Saturday and stay set up until 3 PM Sunday.
4.Inside vendors fee is $50.00 per 10 x 10 space, which includes one table and 2 chairs.  There will be            a $10.00 charge for additional tables.  (You may bring your own tables.)
5.Outside vendors have an uncovered extra large space.  Fee is $50.00.  Table and chairs upon                        request.
6.Fee for commercial vendors selling only gourd crafting supplies, tools, seeds and books is $65.00              per 10 x 10 space, which includes one table and 2 chairs.
7.Show Me Gourd Society will provide reasonable security, but assumes no responsibility for accidents,            damage or theft.
8.Deadline for entry is April 1, 2008.









GENERAL RULES FOR SHOW

Participants must belong to a gourd society, American or State, not necessarily Missouri.
Each individual may enter only one exhibit per class.
No entry will be allowed that was entered in the 2007 Show Me Gourd Festival.
Entries may be placed between noon and 7:00pm on Friday and between 7:00 and 8:45am on Saturday.
All entries MUST remain in place until the end of the show on Sunday at 3:00pm.
Entry tags will be provided and must be attached to entry.  After judging is completed, exhibitor's name will show on the entry tag.
Show Me Gourd Society will provide reasonable security but assumes no responsibility for damage or theft.


Name tags made of gourds or gourd pieces are requested of everyone during the festival.  Make one for your spouse and/or friends and helpers too.  Or wear the one you made for last year's show.  Each badge should include your first and last name and your state of residence.  The name tag can be a pin or a necklace.



GENERAL RULES FOR AWARDS

Ribbons will be given to the top three places in each class.
Special ribbons will be given for:
*  Best Crafter
*  Chairman's 1st Place
*  Co-Chairman's 1st Place
*  People's Choice
*  President's Award
*  5 Artistic Recognition Awards

One year membership to the Show Me Gourd Society will be given to:
*  Best Grower
*  Best Booth

CATEGORY I - DRIED GOURDS:
*  Gourds must have been grown by the exhibitor.
*  Gourds must have stems, be mature and true to type.
*  Gourds must be clean of outer skin, unfinished and uncut.
*  Gourds must not have any stain, oil or wax applied.

Judging Points - 50% Cultural Perfection, Cleanliness and Maturity
  50% True to Type

          CLASSES:
            1)  Largest hardshell in circumference
            2)  Smallest hardshell in circumference
            3)  Longest and strraightest dipper
            4)  Shortest and straightest dipper
            5)  One odd or freak natural gourd
            6)  Hand trained gourd
            7)  3 ornamentals of like size and shape
            8)  2 luffas, uniform in size and shape


CATEGORY II - CRAFTED GOURDS

RULES FOR CATEGORY II & III
*  All crafting and artistic work must be done by exhibitor.
*  Any cut gourd must be cleaned inside and finished to show quality.
*  Gourds must predominate.
*  Gourds may be purchased for crafting.
*  Only one entry per person, per competition class.
*  No artificial flowers permitted.
*  Only natural accessories allowed. ( May include metal, wood, glass, unless otherwise specified.  Clay is allowed in small amounts.)

Judging Points - 10% Originality
  30% Uniqueness of Item
  10% Quality of Gourds, Adaptablity and Suitability to Subject
  50% Workmanship

         9)  1 Whole gourd, painted only
       10)  1 Cut gourd, painted only
       11) 1 whole gourd, wood burned (only clear finish may be used)
12) 1 Cut gourd, wood burned (only clear finish may be used)
13) 1 Whole or cut gourd, wood-burned. (May use paint or color to embellish)
14)  1 Whole gourd, carved. (Clear finish only)
15) 1 Cut gourd, carved. (Clear finish only)
16) 1 Whole or cut gourd, carved. (May use paint or color to embellish)
17) 1 Whole gourd (like a globe or sphere)  With cutting going completely through the shell, finish of choice
- Except NO paint allowed.
18) 1 Whole gourd (like a globe or sphere)  With cutting going completely through the shell. Painted or any
technique.
19) 1 Whole gourd inlayed.  (May use additional techniques to embellish)
20) 1 Cut gourd item inlayed. (May use additional techniques to embellish)

72)  1 Crafted gourd, any technique. Ages 12 to 14 years.  Small amounts of additional accessories                            allowed.
73)  1 Crafted gourd, any technique. Ages 15 to 17 years.  Small amounts of additional accessories                            allowed.


CATEGORY IV - NOVICE
To enter in the Novice category, you can NOT be entered in any categories, except category I.
